No-Flush Niacin contains a special form of niacin, inositol hexanicotinate, consisting of six molecules of niacin chemically linked to an inositol molecule. It is hydrolyzed in the body to free niacin and inositol, which is a very slow process. Its novel properties allow for true niacin activity without the characteristic niacin flush. Some of the ingested inositol hexanicotinate is hydrolyzed in the body to slowly release free niacin and inositol. However, because much of it remains intact in the body, it is thought that inositol hexanicotinate may exert direct effects in addition to those of its constituent inositol and niacin fractions, without causing the characteristic niacin flush. Niacin is a water-soluble nutrient crucial to energy transfer reactions, particularly the ones that help your body metabolize glucose (sugar), fat and alcohol. Niacin also helps metabolize the foods you eat and, like many B vitamins, promotes healthy cellular energy production.
